Greyson
I want to dedicate this site to Greyson and his big sister Caitlyn. Greyson was a wonderful surprise, after 7 years of being an only child, Caitlyn was thrilled to learn she would have a sibling. He was born March 2, 2002, eight days before his big sisters 8th birthday. My favorite number is 8. Greyson has Down Syndrome. He is our son, brother, cousin, & grandchild.
You will find stories here shared by other parents who also have children with Down syndrome. These stories are amazing and heart warming. They are honest and tell of the love, the learning, the fears, and hopes, and dreams experienced as we all walk down this 'different' path of life.
Hopefully, you will see that Down syndrome is not who they are, but just a part of their DNA.
God doesn't make mistakes

Down syndrome is such a scary word to hear when you are pregnant, especially if the words "your baby has" are said before it. But it shouldn't be.
Down syndrome isn't caused by anything you did or didn't do when you were pregnant. In fact, scientists don't really know what causes it. There are all these emotions that you might find that can run through your mind, actually they race through your mind, when you are told that your baby has Down syndrome, what did I do, what didn't I do, how did this happen, why me, what does it mean, how can we cope, how can the baby cope.... there are a million things you think of and worry about and cry over. You might feel as if your entire world has collapsed. But believe it or not, should you be told that your child has Down syndrome, it is going to be OKAY. And there are many who learn of the diagnosis who are not afraid at all. This site is for all parents and families and friends too, who have a loved one diagnosed with Down syndrome. Welcome.
Down syndrome, named after the Doctor, John Langdon Down, who discovered the chromosome abnormality, is the duplication of the 21st chromosome. There are 3 types of Down syndrome, regular Trisomy 21 (which Greyson has), Mosaic Trisomy 21, (where not all chromosomes have the 21st duplicated), and Translocation. Dr Len Leshin, MD FAAP, has an excellent site with detailed information about Down syndrome. You can find some excellent information on Down syndrome, support groups, general information and health information on the links page.
